Realtime UK created the CG announcement trailer for Sega’s latest installment of their Total War series. The trailer focuses on one of history’s most feared leaders – Attila the Hun.
The Concept

The trailer's main focus is to introduce Attila as an insuppressible force, bent on the destruction of the once great civilization of Rome. The use of low camera angles and up lighting allowed the team to portray Attila as a mighty yet malevolent figure. The focus and determination of the character was enforced by the isolation in the staging, intended to allow the viewer to connect with the performance.

The Production

The aim was to create a believable CG human that conveyed emotion. With focus on visual fidelity the script was equally as important. A powerful speech and sophisticated facial animation contribute to the key message of the trailer. Historical accuracy in the costume was essential and high-resolution body scanning technology allowed Realtime UK to support the performance with convincing high fidelity 3d assets.

Dimensional Imaging’s DI4D PRO System was used to create the facial animation, delivering the high fidelity of data required for the trailer.

Maya was used to generate the 3D assets of the film.
The team used the node-based digital compositing software Nuke during post-production.

The final trailer demonstrates the focus of performance Realtime UK intended. Through lighting and staging they presented Attila as the unstoppable force that he is.
