New York's ROOF Studio collaborated with Paris' NAKED Compagnie to conceptualize and create a prolific series of 45 eight second CG bumpers in a rebranding campaign for France’s TF1 Network.
The Concept

The idea was to create attention-catching visuals that simultaneously tell a compelling story about the brand in a span of a few seconds. This would be done by crafting unique worlds or environments for each whimsical, thoroughly original pub. Naked came up with an interesting system and "the carousel" idea to build unity between the bumpers.

Sometimes the Roof Studio team would bring up concepts and then brainstorm with NAKED to really flush out the ideas. The team mainly focused on details for creating something really special on each bumper.
The Production

Both Roof Studio and NAKED Compagnie set up a pipeline in the cloud, so their teams were able to work with an additional 30 different incredibly talented artists from around the globe on the project. The bumpers took about five months in total to produce.

Once the team had an approved design, they jumped straight into modeling, animation, render, etc.
The team set up a production process with Amazon and Podio to work in real-time both internally and externally. Podio was really strategic and a lot of help with efficiencies. Artists could speak directly with one another in its Facebook structure. The team could also visibly see the status of each phase on each individual bumper.
Once the team was ready to render, they set up a lot of the renders in the cloud with Amazon. This allowed them to free up their farms for testing and any high priority renders.
The project had the potential to be challenging due to the sheer number of bumpers that needed to be created -- but, with the collaboration tools, they were able to organize the pipeline and set up properly to render everything in a timely manner.

The CG spots depicted various surreal and humorous mechanical worlds and contraptions to match the various personalities and preferences of viewers.

Everything is incredibly detailed and it adds a realness to these little worlds. As you watch them over and over, you discover some new detail each time.
