Serial Cut, a CGI and design studio, was tasked with creating a campaign to help spread the word for the newest line of SONOS wireless speakers.
The Concept

Sonos wanted to showcase a product that changes the environment of your room and home. The team created four different looks to express all the ways music can affect a space. These visuals needed to be very different yet still part of the same family.

The Production

The team used a combination of CGI, creative photography and digital composition.

The four sets were created by hand.
The "Paint" images were created using live photography and then stitched together on the computer. The team filled up water balloons and threw them at a wall. This created liquid splashes in multiple directions to capture the feeling of movement and energy.
The "Gold" images were created using live photography and then stitched together on the computer. Serial Cut opted to go with a pure photographic look to achieve a lot of detail. The team made a pool of gold paint and dropped the actual product into the paint.
The "Block" and "Plant" images are hand-constructed environments. CGI was used to seamlessly meld the look into a manipulated reality. As for the blocks, the pieces closest to the speaker were real.
Only the details were finished in the computer which added an extra level of alternate reality.

The final prints achieve the feel of an alternate reality, inviting the viewer into the world that's been changed through sound.
