The project was based off a physical Gas Mask that Paulino bought. Since he had the mask in hand, he was able to use his schools 3D scanner to capture the forms and proportions. Even though the scan data helped measure the real life proportions, he still had to model everything from scratch.
Photorealistic Gas Mask
During production, Paulino used Maya for modeling. He also used Uv's, MARI and Photoshop for texturing and Vray for rendering.
The Gas Mask project was really challenging since he had to mimic a real object. At times he spent hours trying to understand the textures, but in the end it was a useful exercise that built his skill set.
