Jian Han Ng's personal project is an homage to Dave Rapoza's LMS in Skull and Shark, using Maya, Photoshop, Zbrush and V-Ray.
The Concept

Jian Han Ng was inspired by Dave Rapoza's concept art and chose to create a CG homage to his work.

Dave Rapoza's LMS in Skull and Shark.
Reference images such as clothing, wears and tears.
The Production

Jian completed the project using Maya, Photoshop and Zbrush. All materials used were with vray's mtl shader.

Jian visualized a highpoly version of the project's key focus - the helmet. This was done with Maya's quick-smooth.
Modeling of the low-poly model was completed in Maya to maintain a good topology before moving on to Zbrush.
The lighting was set to something dramatic and atmospheric that would stay true to the universe created by Dave Rapoza.
The whole model was detailed with Zbrush. Jian used standard brushes: DamStandard, Standard, Claytubes, Crease, etc.
After laying out UV's, Jian textured the model. He started from scratch on all areas with only base textures. This helped him control every crease, tear and fold.
The final image was composited in Photoshop.
